Offers That Never Disappoint: Live Availability and Pricing in Checkout

An upsell only works if the offer is real. A traveler who clicks on an activity and finds it sold out, or more expensive than the card said, doesn't just abandon that sale. They lose some trust in the checkout they were in the middle of using.
That is why live data matters more in checkout than almost anywhere else.
Why static data fails
- Availability changes quickly. Time slots fill up, and capacity varies by date.
- Prices vary by date, time and number of travelers.
- A wrong offer costs more than no offer. In a purchase flow, any friction counts.
How to keep offers accurate
- Check availability before showing. Call POST /api/availability/slots for the traveler's dates and show only options with real slots.
- Show the real price. Display the price returned for the traveler's group size, not a generic "from" price. Your markup, if you have one, is added at checkout.
- Re-check at the moment of commitment. If a few minutes pass between the offer and the click, confirm again before the hold.
- Fall back gracefully. If nothing is available for the dates, show the next-best option or skip the offer. An empty slot should never appear as a broken button.
Protecting the traveler at payment
The booking pipeline uses Stripe with manual capture. When the traveler pays, the card is authorized. It is only charged once the supplier confirms the booking. If the supplier rejects the booking, the authorization is released and the customer isn't charged. That makes the upsell safe to accept, which helps conversion as well as trust.
Quality as well as accuracy
An accurate offer for a mediocre activity is still a weak offer. Caliber, our quality-ranking algorithm refined over 10 years of data, puts the strongest options first. Combined with live availability, that means every offer in your checkout is one you can stand behind.
The principle
Show fewer offers, and make every one of them true. Three accurate, well-ranked options will outperform thirty uncertain ones.
