Beyond Recommendations: The Travel AI Agent That Checks Live Prices and Availability

Ask most AI travel assistants what to do in Barcelona and you'll get a thoughtful answer: a few well-chosen suggestions, a short description of each, perhaps a link. Then comes the moment that actually matters to the traveler: "Is there space on Saturday morning? How much is it for two adults and a child?"
That is where the conversation usually stops being useful. The assistant doesn't know. The traveler is sent to a booking page, re-enters the same details and hopes the activity is still available. Many don't come back.
We built the TourScanner agent to close that gap.
The limits of recommendation-only agents
Inspiration is the easy part of travel AI. The hard part is everything that follows:
- Information goes stale. A price or time slot that was accurate when a model was trained, or when a page was indexed, may not be accurate now.
- The journey breaks at the handoff. Every redirect to a third-party page is a chance for the traveler to drop off.
- The real question goes unanswered. "Can we go Saturday at 10 with the kids?" is a question about live inventory, not general knowledge.
An agent that can only talk about activities is a brochure with a chat box. An agent that can query inventory is a sales assistant.
What the TourScanner agent does differently
The agent doesn't guess. It calls the API directly and works with real data from the provider:
- Searches the catalog by city, attraction, keyword or filters.
- Checks availability for the dates and group size the traveler mentions, returning real time slots and pricing.
- Prepares the checkout as it verifies the chosen slot live and creates a checkout link with the activity, date, time and group size filled in.
- Hands over the link, where the traveler completes the booking and payment.
Live slots and checkout work for activities from our connected suppliers, about half of the catalog. For the rest, the agent shares the supplier's own booking link.
A conversation, step by step
Take a traveler who types: "Sagrada Familia for 2 adults this Saturday."
- The agent identifies the right activity in the catalog.
- It queries live slots for that date and group size.
- It replies with the options that are actually bookable, with the price for two adults.
- If the traveler picks a time, agent hands over a pre-filled checkout link.
Nothing in that exchange relies on memory or assumption. Every answer comes from a live query.
See it work
In the demo on tourscanner.ai, the API requests appear in real time next to the conversation, together with a preview of the interface the agent generates. Nothing is hidden. For a product team evaluating an agent, that transparency matters: you can see exactly which calls are made and what comes back.
Under the hood
The agent sits on the same infrastructure as the TourScanner API: more than 1,000,000 activities from multiple providers, across thousands of cities and 11 languages, behind one integration. Results can be ranked by Caliber, so travelers see the best activities and not just the cheapest.
Build your own, using the same tools
If you would rather build an assistant that fits your product, the same capabilities are available through a remote MCP (Model Context Protocol) server with 12 tools, as well as a REST API with an OpenAPI spec. Your agent can search, check live availability, create checkout links and look up bookings without custom connectors for each provider.
From answer to checkout
Because checkout is part of the pipeline, a conversation can end in a pre-filled checkout link. Payments run through Stripe with manual capture: the traveler's card is authorized when they pay at checkout and charged only when the supplier confirms the booking. If the supplier rejects the booking, the authorization is released and the customer isn't charged.
Who it is for
- Travel apps that want a conversational way to sell activities next to flights and hotels.
- Teams building AI agents that need to book, not just suggest.
- Content and affiliate sites that want destination pages where readers can check availability and book.
Try it
The fastest way to see the difference is to use it. Open tourscanner.ai, ask the agent something specific, such as a date, a group size and a city, and watch it work. When you're ready to bring it into your product, request API access and tell us what you're building.
